AVS4U Video Converter
About: AVS4U Video Converter allows you to convert and encode in a variety of formats and for a variety of devices.
Use cases: Convert video formats, reveal date and time stamps, create DVD and Blu-ray videos. Formats: AVI, MOV, TS, XVID, MP4, DVD, WMV, 3GP, FLV, SWF, FLIC, DPG, MPEG, H.264, MOD, DVR-MS and more.
Why did you need the product?
When transferring digital video from cameras to DVD's or onto computers for clients, the date and time stamp was not there. Even though the date and time can be seen when playing back on the camera, it does not transfer over to DVD, etc. The AVS program extracts the date and time information from the metadata of the video and makes it where it is able to be viewed other than on the camera.
The program works like a charm and even lets you convert the video to different formats such as WMV, MPG etc.
What didn't work?
To get the date and time to transfer, you are required to select each video segment (after its uploaded to the program) and then click "add track" to it. The program does not allow you to select more than one video segment at a time (shift + arrow) which would make it much easier. When you have a lot of video from a lengthy investigation, clicking each segment by itself can get to be quite time consuming.
The extraction of date and time information has been a problem industry wide for a few years now and I feel AVS has come up with a great fix.
