Private Investigator Not Giving Up on Missing Persons Case

WOBURN, MA — A private investigator working on the disappearance of Melanie Melanson says that they are closer than ever to finding out what happened to the girl. Massachusetts private investigator Michael Garrigan of Advanced and Private Investigations has been working on the case since 1991 and he says that a phone tip may help the family get some answers. The anonymous phone tip came after a local TV station aired a piece about the missing girl's case, which has been unsolved for over 20 years.

Private Investigator Led to Fraud Investigation

HIALEAH, FL – Joe Carrillo, a Florida private investigator, reportedly sparked a voter fraud probe after going to police to report his concerns that a woman was gathering absentee ballots illegally. Carrillo alleges that he saw Daisy Cabrera handing out business cards to voters, and the cards allegedly asked voters to contact her when the ballot arrives. Detectives who contacted Cabrera found her with several absentee ballots, which is currently a misdemeanor in the county. In addition to Cabrera, a woman named Matilde Martinez is also being investigated in relation to the case.

Active Plus Helps Establish Private Investigator Business

UK – Convergence project Active Plus has helped former RAF member Guy Brindle establish his own private investigation business. The new company, Good Guy Investigations, is a network of private investigators who can take on a variety of cases. Brindle, who worked in the security industry in New Zealand, turned to Active Plus after being out of work. Active Plus helps those over the age of 50 find a job or set up their own business.

HAYDEN, ID – The Private Dick Diaries is a provoking new book written by CJ Vertefeuille following interviews with Erin Jenkins and Phil Thompson. Jenkins and Thompson are the president and vice president of Confidential Investigations, one of the best known Idaho private investigation companies in the area. The book contains anecdotes about cases as well as information about the business side of the company.

Investigators Look For Skeletons in People's Closets Before the "I Do's"

UAE – According to private investigators in the Emirates, there is a growing trend in UAE for pre-marital background checks of spouses. According to investigators at companies such as Applied Business Intelligence (ABI), the trend is occurring because wealthy families are concerned that potential spouses may be hiding criminal or financial secrets that may be harmful to the family. In many cases, there is a $500 retainer fee and about $250 per day charged by some businesses for these checks, so the total costs can vary widely, depending on the complexity of the case.

Investigator Looks into Possible Misconduct at Sherriff’s Department

MERCED COUNTY, CA – Merced County Sheriff's Department Cmdr. James Buttrey was accused by former sheriff's dispatcher Kathy Mathis of retaliation after Mathis allegedly rebuffed Buttrey’s advances. Mathis filed a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and a private investigation was launched into the matter. The county has allegedly paid $21,498 for a California private investigator in the case, and although the case is almost complete, the findings will reportedly not be made public, even though public money was used for the investigation.
