Following a Request for Proposal issued in 2007 with the intent to procure an MVA-based, third generation smallpox vaccine, Public Works and Government Services Canada, on behalf of the Canadian Department of National Defence, has awarded a contract to Bavarian Nordic for the delivery of IMVAMUNE®. The Canadian authorities intend to use IMVAMUNE® as part of the country's bio-preparedness programme.

UT Southwestern Researchers Develop New Strategy For Broad Spectrum Anti-Viral Drugs
Bavituximab, an anti-viral drug developed by UT Southwestern Medical Center researchers, shows promise as a new strategy to fight viral diseases, including potential bioterrorism agents. In a study appearing in the December issue of Nature Medicine, groups of guinea pigs infected with a virus similar to Lassa fever virus recovered from the fatal disease when treated with bavituximab alone or in combination with a common anti-viral medication.

Investigations Following A Death From Anthrax
Following the announcement of the death of a patient from inhalation anthrax the Health Protection Agency have been carrying out testing at the patient's workshop in Hackney, where animal skin drums were made. Testing was carried out to see whether there were traces of anthrax at the property and if any specialist cleaning was needed before it could be used again.

Wouldn't you agree, that it brings sadness for being remembered, as the worst school tragedy in U.S. History? I retired from the State Police Bomb Squad and have seen a dramatic nationwide increase, in the number of armed threats and actual bombings in the United States. With the upcoming new school year just around the corner, is your school system ready, for the future increase in these threats?
