Search Warrant for Cell Phone Data |
COLUMBUS, OH – Recently, the Ohio Supreme Court determined that police and law enforcement authorities require a search warrant to access cell phone data, such as contacts lists and recent calls. The Ohio Supreme Court is the first to pass a decision on searches of cell phones. Currently, many privacy advocacy groups are concerned at how easily cell phone data is accessible by PIs, collection agencies and others. Even the FBI has admitted to buying cell phone information from PIs and data collection companies. |

New Bill in Newfoundland |
NEWFOUNDLAND, CANADA – The House of Assembly has passed a number of laws and amended a few bills. Among the bills passed was Bill 39. This particular legislative bill no longer requires private security agencies to be part of the Newfoundland Security Guards and Private Investigators Association. At a time when many states in the US and provinces in Canada are tightening controls of private security professionals and the security industry. |

How Will Private Testing Affect PI Jobs? |
WASHINGTON, D.C. – A recent article available through Scripps News points out that consumers are increasingly paying cash to have tests conducted themselves and are thus bypassing the need for a doctor. Patients are using online services and storefront testing centers to check everything from glucose levels to paternity results. These services allow patients to enjoy a level of discretion usually not available and allows patients to also control who sees test results. The facilities offering testing for private consumers are also the facilities that do testing and forensic analysis for PIs. |

PI and Officers Have DNA Taken for Testing |
LAKE CHARLES, LA – The case involving the unsolved deaths of eight women has produced so many rumors and allegations that law enforcement officers and a PI with direct links to the case have submitted their DNA to have it compared with DNA from the cases. Rumors that investors may be connected to the deaths have concerned local law enforcement. In an effort to disprove these rumors, investigators and PInow.com advertiser Kirk Menard have submitted their DNA for analysis. |
