Will Georgia Ban Hidden GPS Tracking Devices?

ATLANTA, GA - Current legislation allows anyone to install or place a hidden GPS tracking device on a car, which essentially makes it legal for anyone to track a driver without the driver's knowledge. Georgia State Representative Kevin Levitas is introducing a bill that would make this practice illegal. PIs are worried that the new legislation will take away a very important technique for their cases.
Would legislation like this in your state change the way you conduct investigations? Share your opinion of this in the PInow.com Yahoo! Group.

Grade Controversy Means PI Work

FRESNO, CA - A student athlete at Edison High School saw a math grade go from an "F" to an "A." A complaint made by an anonymous letter caused great interest in the case. PIs hired by the district spent months interviewing adults and students at the school. The conclusion of the investigation, according to the District Superintendent, is that Edison Math Teacher Jeff Powell made the grade change. Powell is now on paid administrative leave.

Virginia PI Firm Is All in the Family

POWHATAN, VA - Central Virginia Investigations has been a family-run business since Bob Livermon purchased the company in 2002. Now, Livermon's son, Josh, is part of the business as well. According to the PIs, one thing that has changed over a generation is that infidelity cases have done an about face. Five years ago, most clients requesting the service were women wanting husbands investigated. Today, it is usually husbands asking for their wives to be investigated.

Michigan PI Honored

MILFORD, MI - Russ Rheaume has been a PI for four decades and now his work in the industry has been honored. Rheaume has been awarded the Michigan Council of Private Investigators Professionalism Award. As president of Special Inquiry Company, Rheaume has lots of experience that he uses in his "Featured Sleuth" column in the MCPI newsletter. The MCPI Professionalism Award is designed to acknowledge contributions to the investigation profession and the MCPI. The award has only been given out twice, perhaps making it an even greater honor for Rheaume.

Volunteer PIs Search for Missing Teen

BROCKTON, MA - Teenager Jennifer Fay went missing in 1989, but even though her trail probably disappeared 19 years ago, search dogs are now being used to hunt for clues. The dogs are from the Connecticut Canine Search and Rescue and are part of a volunteer effort to find Fay. The dogs are specifically trained to find human remains and indicated that remains may be buried near a bridge in Brockton. Investigators from local PI firms are also helping in the search. The PIs are working on a volunteer basis and have helped the search by looking for clues and by interviewing dozens of people who may be related to the case.
