PI Finds Bad Economy Good For Business

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO– Having joined the investigation field about five years ago, PInow.com Advertiser John Mackey notes that over the past year, he has seen requests for investigations increase locally as the economy has struggled. He has been especially busy with cheating spouse investigations and workplace compensation investigations. Mackey sees no signs of a downturn yet. He has also noted that he has been asked by companies to run more background checks and to offer more security services.

Nova Scotia Latest Canadian Province to Enforce the Security Professional Bill

NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA — Nova Scotia has become the latest Canadian province to introduce a new bill which would make licensing and training mandatory for bouncers and security professionals. Currently, the industry is unregulated in Nova Scotia. Ontario has already passed a similar bill. In Nova Scotia, there is no formal, standardized training or education required of PIs and security personnel.

Investigators Still Seeking Missing Millionaire Couple

ROTORUA, NEW ZEALAND – Leo Gao and Kara Hurring are the couple famous for fleeing New Zealand six months ago, when their bank accidentally credited their account with millions of dollars. Private investigators have been trying to find the couple – and the money they took – ever since. The duo are believed to be in Hong Kong and investigators are awaiting Chinese cooperation in the case. About $3.8m of the $10 million inadvertently credited to the couple remains missing.

Red-Light Traffic Tickets May Soon Involve Jury Trials

FORT WORTH, TX– The City Council in Fort Worth is considering offering jury trials for drivers who get a ticket from red-light cameras. Some opponents to the plan claim that such a decision would increase costs of red-light tickets. Others claim that few tickets would result in trials. Currently, Fort Worth red light camera tickets include a $75 ticket and a civil penalty and do not give drivers a criminal record. Drivers who want to fight a ticket currently have two options: municipal court or an administrative hearing.

Security Firm to Be Hired by Businesses

GARY, IN – Businesses in the Miller area hope to add to the help already offered by the Gary Police Department by hiring a private security firm. While business owners are not critical of police, several business owners in the area have expressed worry about a recent spate of burglaries. PI Jeff Kumorek of Kumorek Private Investigations LLC, has admitted to media that he has been in talks with local business owners, but declined to elaborate.
