Online Detective Agency Launched |
WORCESTERSHIRE, UK - Netsecrets from Stockwood, an internet services provider, has launched a web site for Heligan Investigations. The web site is a virtual PI agency. The site gives potential customers background information about the services offered and then customers can register online for them. The business model is unique; since customer interaction takes place online, customers can order PI services discreetly. Without a face-to-face meeting, clients can get PI services while remaining anonymous. Even the identity of the private investigator is kept top-secret. |

PIs Involved in Louisiana Speed Debate |
LAFAYETTE, LA - Speed vans in Lafayette may be a thing of the past if a state statute bans the vehicles. In the meantime, the Louisiana State Board of Private Investigators is meeting about the vans and trying to determine whether operators of the vans should be required to have a permit. Redflex, the company that operates the vans, claims that operators do not need a permit because the operators are only drivers, not PIs. Since the vans are automated, the drivers do not have to take pictures nor are they involved in the picture taking process. |

Decision About Email Communication Affects PIs in Israel |
ISRAEL - In a recent court case, Israeli police issued search warrants for several emails from PIs. When the matter was brought before the courts the question of whether email interception is the same as illegal eavesdropping of a conversation, or the seizure of an object became a key concern. If emails were considered a private conversation, they could not be intercepted because private conversations are protected and eavesdropping on them is illegal. However, if emails were considered things or objects, they could be seized with arrest warrants. The Israel court ruled that emails stored on ISP servers were conversations and could not be intercepted. |
