Oklahoma Teen’s Death Sparks Years of Investigation

ROOSEVELT, OK - On March 17, 1996, 18-year-old Steven Royce Burroughs disappeared in Roosevelt, sparking a decade-long investigation. In 2003, a farmer found two leg bones and a skull in a pond near the Burroughs’ home. Two years after the remains were submitted for analysis the family was informed that the body parts did indeed belong to Burroughs. Investigators, however, were not able to find a cause of death. Burroughs’ family hired a PI, Arden Beavers. He found a number of errors made in the official investigation. In fact, the original missing person’s report was lost. The second report also vanished. The pond where Burroughs’ body was found was never drained.
