PIs Find Moonlighting Light on Reality |
BRIGHTON, UK - The Times Online regularly has experts view DVDs to determine Hollywood accuracy. Recently, The Times asked professional PI Peter Hedley, director of Sundown Associates, to sit down to a viewing of the 80s show Moonlighting. Hedley at first was amused by the melodrama, but quickly found a more disturbing level of inaccuracy. The cases the Moonlighting Detective Agency takes on are not cases many PIs accept. Worse, both PIs with the Moonlighting Detective Agency are flashy and inconspicuous where they should be working hard not to stand out. Hedley thought that both PIs would make bad investigators and feels that the show is not at all about detective work. In fact, he feels that the two main characters could be working at any other job and it would not matter much. |

PIs in Pubs? |
COTTESLOE, WESTERN AUSTRALIA - Patrons of the pubs at the Ocean Beach and Cottesloe Beach Hotels in Perth may soon be under surveillance if the Cottesloe council has its way and hires PIs. The council is considering a confidential proposal to hire PIs to gather information that would review the number of patrons allowed into the pubs on Sundays. The council also claims the proposal would be used to cut down on undesirable activity at the beach, which is often blamed on the pubs. |

The article does mention that a general check by a PI can cost just $350 to $500, and is well worth the investment. |

Insurer’s Decision to Hire PIs Offends Victims’ Families |
LOCKHART RIVER, AUSTRALIA - Insurers QBE and attorneys for air carriers TransAir, Lessbrook have hired PIs to investigate the families affected by the Lockhart River air crash. The crash killed 15 and is considered one of the worst air disasters in the country. Some relatives are outraged that PIs will be investigating while the insurer continues to delay negotiating settlements. Families claim that the insurer wants to avoid paying the maximum $500,000 insurance liability claim, and the PIs are merely meant to dig up dirt that will let QBE off the hook. Some families claim that they are under surveillance and have been offered a fraction of what they could get in a settlement. |
