Investigators Crack Down on Fraud |
RACINE, WI – Racine County has been using PIs to investigate welfare fraud in the area for three years. Investigators have found that most cases of fraud involved not large sums of money, but rather recipients omitting to report new information or falsifying applications. So far, investigators have gathered evidence to pursue felony fraud cases against five residents in the area. |

PIs Tackle Illegal Gun Sales |
NEW YORK, NY – Mayor Michael Bloomberg has reported that PIs hired by the City to pose as illegal gun buyers were easily able to buy guns four out of five attempts. The PIs went undercover at gun shows in Nevada, Ohio and Tennessee, where they were able to make purchases. The operation was part of a $1.5 million investigation into illegal weapon purchases.

Social Media to the Cold Case |
NEW YORK, NY - Robert Rahn, president of Management Resources Ltd., has turned to social networking to help combat a "cold" missing person's case. With the help of Kathy Fealy, an online marketing executive, Rahn has implemented social media tools such as Google Alerts, Facebook and MySpace pages and YouTube videos about Vernon Jones, Rahn's cold case subject who disappeared in 1993. Rahn has noted that overtime many traditional investigative methods and media outlets can become expensive and difficult to continuously engage the general public. |

PIs Posing as Law Enforcement? |
JEFFERSON, CO – PI John Sampson and his team from CSI Consulting and Investigations arrived at Shaffer Elementary School investigating a custody case. What happened next is a matter of some debate. Sampson says that his team – wearing specially made hats and badges with the acronym “CSI” – identified themselves as PIs and claimed they were never asked for IDs. Principal Gina Rivas claims that she and her staff felt that they were dealing with law enforcement officers and shared information with the PIs based on that assumption. |

PI Business Recognized by El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce |
EL PASO, TX – The El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce recently held its yearly Future 15 Celebration to recognize local businesses for innovation, success and passion. Among the 15 businesses honored was Sun City Security Service Inc., a PI firm offering investigative, patrol, security and alarm response services. Another company honored was Trust Screening, a company offering background checks and other forms of employee screening. |

False Mules Make it Difficult for PIs Trying to Catch Online Criminals |
LONDON, ENGLAND – Security specialists have found that cyber criminals targeting banks are using “money mules” and other measures to hide their actions. Money mules are people who launder money for criminals for a commission and wire money to cons. In addition, the web servers used by criminals are now set to return fake data when it appears that the servers are being investigated. |
