Israel Defense Force Investigators Use Facebook |
TEL AVIV, ISRAEL - The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has been using Facebook and ties with police to track down young Israelis who are evading army service. The IDF has even used PIs to find out the truth about youth – especially girls – who use false pretenses to dodge military service. For example, a girl studying in Tel Aviv was captured last week for evading military service but claimed that she was religious, which is grounds for exemption. A search on Facebook showed that the girl’s lifestyle included partying and other non-religious activities. Although the girl appealed to the Ministry of Defense, her Facebook page was enough to get her appeal denied. After research showed that many girls are claiming exemption on religious grounds, the IDF has determined that all girls who study at secular schools but seek exemption on religious grounds will have to face the Human Resources Branch for clarification. |

PI Cracks Murder Case |
BROWARD COUNTY, FL - PI Dan Riemer, working on the murder case of Sgt. Chris Reyka, is claiming that the case is solved. Riemer brought Broward Circuit Judge Ilona Holmes a civilian arrest warrant in the case. Although he has not confirmed the information, sources say that Riemer has named Gerald Joshua as the killer. Joshua has been accused of robberies that involve other felons, and Riemer alleges that he has uncovered evidence that conclusively links Joshua and his gang of thieves to the Reyka killing. |

Blogger vs. PI |
NEW YORK, NY - A Gawker blogger, Hamilton Nolan, is using the Internet to fight back against a PI who he feels is intruding on his privacy. Two PIs appeared near Nolan’s home and began questioning his neighbors and friends. Nolan has no idea who hired the duo and has posted their images and contact information on the Gawker blog, hoping to find out who hired the PIs. It’s an interesting case of how technology can be used against private investigators. |

New Zealand Mulling Over PI Laws |
WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND - The Justice Ministry in New Zealand is considering some hot-button issues in the PI industry, including how to keep the information PIs gather out of the hands of blackmailers and whether PIs should be allowed to deceive investigation targets. A few high-profile cases of PIs abusing their powers have New Zealand’s lawmakers considering these new policies for the industry. Under current laws, PIs must be licensed and adhere to the privacy act and laws surrounding ethics. |

PI and News Crew Check Hotel Security |
KNOXVILLE, TN - PI Kendall Shull and TV news reporters converged on a Days Inn Motel in Tennessee to get some answers about a missing woman. Jennifer Hampton was last seen alive entering her room at the hotel. Her body was found days later in a lake. News reporters and a PI wanted to know how secure the hotel was and quickly discovered problems. The hotel Hampton stayed in had a re-drilled security door which Shull pointed out would be easy to compromise. Shull was also concerned about the hard key override on the hotel’s doors, which allows many people in the hotel – from maintenance staff to cleaning staff – to enter rooms easily. Shull compared the Days Inn to a nearby Four Points Sheraton and found that the Sheraton was far more secure. |
