Garbage By-Law Could Jeopardize Investigations |
COLUMBIA CITY, MO - Columbia City Council has proposed an ordinance that would make it illegal to remove trash or recyclables from the curb. The ordinance is meant to stop those who have been removing scrap aluminum from recycling boxes for profit. Sixth Ward Councilwoman Barbara Hoppe claimed the thefts cut into city revenue. PIs noted that garbage provides a crucial tool for PIs who are conducting an investigation. As a result of testimony from PIs and others, Hoppe changed the proposed ordinance to just affect recyclables. The ordinance was then unanimously approved by the council. |

Hiring a PI |
TINLEY PARK, IL - PI Keith McRae has a regular column in the Southtown Star. In his most recent column, McRae tackled the age-old question of how to hire a PI. He suggests that clients look for PIs specializing in the type of service they need. He also notes that PIs should be licensed and should be affordable without being so low-cost that the quality of an investigation might be compromised. |

Investigators Stumped Over 1972 Killings |
GRAND ISLAND, NE - Bob Allen's sister, Bernice Peak, and her husband, retired Col. Bill Peak, and their daughter were killed 36 years ago. The family was shot in their lakeside home. Bernice was still alive when the family was found by Allen, but she succumbed to an infection two months after the shooting without being able to provide details about the incident. Allen was frustrated by the investigations of Hall County authorities and has twice hired PIs to look into the case. He has pressured governors to re-open the case and has raised reward money for any information leading to arrests. Despite all his efforts, Allen has not been able to get any answers. |

Judge Allows Surveillance to Continue |
BURLINGTON, VT - Ginger Aldrich went to court to issue a restraining order to stop a PI from allegedly monitoring her movements. However, the judge sided with the PI conducting surveillance work in the case and told Aldrich she needed to go to criminal court if the PI continues to be a nuisance. Aldrich is suing a group of companies that built a boiler and pipe vent in her apartment. When that equipment malfunctioned in 2005 Aldrich suffered permanent brain damage. New England Air Systems, one of the companies being sued, has denied hiring a PI. |
