Online Missing Persons Search to Help PIs

CHICAGO, IL – Chicago graduate student David Gimelfarb has gone missing in a remote area of Costa Rica. Rescue crews are searching for the student, but in the meantime friends have established a Facebook page to help bring Gimelfarb home. PIs agree that social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and MySpace can help in a missing persons case, although many note that such resources tend to be underused. Gimelfarb’s friends and family say that the social networking page has already been instrumental in pressuring the U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica to send U.S. military helicopters with infrared sensors to look for the student.
