Over the next little while, he will be trying to disappear while Wired magazine is offering a bounty of $5000 for his “capture.” The project aims to find out how long someone can go missing in today’s high-surveillance world. |

Man Alleges Police and PI Conspiracy |
SAN DIEGO, CA – John F. Steel IV is suing the city of San Diego, alleging that PIs and police officers conspired together when they falsely accused him of drunk driving in 2007. Steel is claiming excessive force, false arrest, negligence, conspiracy and battery. Police pulled Steel over in 2007, claiming he was driving erratically and was possibly intoxicated. Steel alleges that PIs were following him around bars one night, then one of the PIs called a friend on the police force to pull Steel over. |

Family Hires PI to Clear Woman’s Name |
LONG ISLAND, NY – Diane Schuler was in a tragic car accident that killed four children and four adults. Official police investigators concluded that she was drinking and driving at the time of the crash, but her family has insisted that an illness may have caused the accident. Canadians Show Their Contempt for Surveillance – By Mooning |
SARNIA, CANADA – Demonstrators protesting a US surveillance balloon in Canada gathered together in Sarnia, Ontario, to lower their pants and moon the sky in an act of protest. The crowd of between 100 and 300 people mooned and quickly left. The group was protesting a surveillance balloon sent from Michigan to Sarnia. The balloon is equipped with a sensitive camera that some demonstrators claim amount to an invasion of privacy. |

PI Duo Found Guilty and Sentenced to Jail |
BELFAIR, WA – PI duo Emilio and Brandy Torrella have been found guilty of using illegal means to find out personal information about people. They have been sentenced to six months in jail and two years of probation. Allegedly, employees hired by the Torrella business, BNT Investigations, claimed to be the individuals they were investigating when they called government agencies. By making these false claims, they were able to get personal information about their targets from the government agencies. |

Olympic Surveillance Has Privacy Advocates Worried |
VANCOUVER, CANADA – A group called The Vancouver Public Space Network plans to map all the surveillance cameras being used in the city of Vancouver today to raise awareness of how much surveillance is being used in the city. Today, private CCTV cameras are frequent in the city and Vancouver aims to add many more cameras for the Olympics in 2010.
