NBC Dateline Claims PI Helped Wrongly Convicted Man |
SALEM, OR – Eric Mason worked as an investigative TV journalist before becoming a PI. Now, NBC is crediting Mason with helping to free Scott Cannon, wrongfully convicted of three 1998 murders. Cannon was convicted largely because the bullets used to kill Jason Kinser, Suzan Osborne and Celesta Graves in 1998 were verified to be the same bullets as those found in Cannon’s home – at least according to an Oregon State University scientist who testified at the trial. |

Hacker Shows Cell Phone Tower Vulnerability |
LAS VEGAS, NV – Security researcher Chris Paget has shown how easily hackers can compromise cell phone calls – by building a cell phone base station that intercepts calls by fooling cell phones into routing calls through the device. The device allows even encrypted calls to be intercepted. Similar devices – known as IMSI catchers, have been used by intelligence agencies and some police departments, but Paget’s device is cheap to build (about $1500) and available to anyone. |

Corporate Networks Now Vulnerable |
LAS VEGAS, NV – A Data Breach Investigation Report released by Verizon revealed that its cyber-security forensics investigation team has found new vulnerabilities in corporate networks. Over the past 6 years, Verizon cyber PIs have found 900 compromised records and 900 cases of data theft. |

PI Video Fuels County Investigation |
YULEE, FL – Four Nassau County administrators, Butch Hartman, Daniel Salmon, Brenda Rothwell and Lee Pickett, have been suspended following an investigation into possible misuse of public money. Nassau County taxpayers hired a PI for surveillance work on the officials, who were attending a hurricane conference. The PI took videos of the officials, and the videos were handed over to Nassau County Sheriff Tommy Seagraves. |
