State Launches Criminal Background Check Web Site for Employers |
BIRMINGHAM, AL - A new online system has been introduced to help employers perform a quick and secure criminal background check on workers. At the site, employers can view all felony and misdemeanor arrests and court conviction records. It also allows employers information about their current or prospective employees, according to a news release. However, employers have to meet certain qualifications before being approved to use the site. They also must have a signed waiver from the current or prospective employee before performing the search. |

Businesses Learn About Bad Checks |
ST. PAUL, MN - PI firm Financial Crimes Services is joining forces with the St. Paul police and the city attorney's office to offer an informational session for St. Paul businessmen on Wednesday. The session will help businesses to learn about the city's new worthless check diversion program. The program will help businesses get their money, even when customers write bad checks. So far, the program has helped local businesses recover thousands of dollars since the program was instituted earlier this year. |

PI Turns to Hollywood |
FALL RIVER, MA - Fall River PI Bill Silvia Jr. has landed movie roles in The Departed, Fever Pitch, Hard Luck, Stiffs, Gone Baby Gone, Townies and Underdog, as well as other major films. Silvia worked as a PI for almost two decades when four years ago he decided to look for famous people so that he could sell their photos to magazines. The brush with celebrity led Silvia to seek fame and now when his PI business allows, he travels to auditions for TV and movie roles. |

PIs’ Best Friend is the Web? |
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - A recent article by Dave Parrack claims that web applications such as Google, Twitter, Flickr, MySpace, and others have made work much easier for PIs. While all online activity leaves information such as IP addresses, web 2.0 applications and web sites often encourage people to reveal more information, such as names, addresses, birth dates and photos. This information can be a real boon to PIs. |

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin Denies Need for PIs |
ANCHORAGE, AK - Some of the people represented by Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin are calling for private investigations into Palin's actions. In response, Palin has announced changes at the Department of Public Safety. Some are claiming that PIs are needed to investigate the claims of a commissioner, who alleges he was fired because he refused to fire a trooper involved with Palin's sister. Palin denies the need for a PI as staunchly as she denies the allegations. She claims that Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan was let go because Palin wanted the department to go in a new direction. |
