PIs Examine Firefighter Claims |
PROVIDENCE, RI – The Providence Fire Department has stirred up controversy by hiring PIs to do surveillance work on its own firefighters. The department notes that overtime represents a significant part of the budget and wants to crack down on firefighters who are making suspect sick or injury leave claims. Firefighters and their union claim that the PIs are a waste of money and cost the public many thousands of dollars. |

Police and PIs in New Zealand Follow New Cooperation Rules |
AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND – New rules in parts of New Zealand will mean that PIs and local police will work together more closely. Search warrants will be available for joint investigations, and police will be required to investigate cases examined by PIs. Advocates of the new rules believe that the rules will help prevent private investigations that are not considered by police. In the past, PIs and their clients have been frustrated when evidence is collected by PIs but police do not act on the information. |

Pet Detective Snoops Pooches |
AUBURN, NE – PI Karin TarQwyn is visiting Nebraska to train dogs to follow the scent of lost pets. She will work with Hearts United for Animals, a local shelter, to train some of the shelter dogs to become pooch PIs and help find lost pets. Karin TarQwyn has been part of 1500 cases involving missing dogs and has an 80% success rate in finding missing pets. |

PI Tackles Missing Girl Case |
WOODSTOCK, CANADA - Victoria Stafford, 8, has been missing for several weeks and her disappearance has been front-page news across Canada during that time. Now, a PI has agreed to take on the case for free after authorities have made little progress in the case. Victoria Stafford’s parents have said that they still have much faith in the local police, but are happy to accept the additional help of the PI to help find their daughter. |

PIs Hired to Spy on Employee’s Personal Life |
BERLIN, GERMANY – A German newspaper has obtained documents that suggest that Deutsche Telekom, Germany’s largest telecom company, hired a PI to investigate the personal life of an employee at a telecommunications company in Croatia, including romantic relationships. The employee apparently had applied for a management job at a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom. Deutsche Telekom has claimed that for a brief time in 2004 the company screened employees for personal as well as professional details due to security concerns but decided to not make the practice a standard policy. |
