PI Accused of Leaking Confidential Information |
LAS VEGAS, NV - Due to an investigation into the actions of a police department, a state agency, and a PI, residents in Nevada may find that their confidential information is not as secure as they believe. PI Jim Thomas, the DMV and Metro in Las Vegas have been sued for allegedly leaking confidential information. As many as 240 people may have had their personal information compromised. |

Elections in India Mean More PI Work |
MUMBAI, INDIA - PI Sanjay Rasalpatil in India reports that business is booming before India's elections. While Rasalpatil usually investigates spousal cases, lately he has been checking political rumors and has been hired for surveillance work on voters who may be cheating the system. He also has had more requests to run background checks on candidates. According to the Private Detectives Association of India, India has about 18,000 PIs and most have reported a jump in business from political parties. Coalition politics and many parties mean fierce rivalry and therefore a perceived need for PIs. |

Unusual Route to the PI Industry |
HALTON, CANADA - Lesley Weslock and her husband Edward Weslock parted ways in 1995, but despite their very posh lifestyle, her husband left her without any money and ran. Lesley continued searching for him and eventually was able to nab him when he stopped in Ontario to visit relatives. Edward is now in jail. While searching for her ex-husband for so many years, Lesley entered the PI business and now works for a PI. The company was impressed by Weslock's tenacity in searching for her own ex-husband and now Weslock helps other women track down their exes. |

PI Increases Exposure at Community Law Day |
PRESCOTT, AZ - On May 1, National Law Day, 22 attorneys offered their services for free to the public in a legal clinic. Many people came out to take advantage of the free services. Palmer Investigation Services also took part in the clinic. Sheila Cahill of Palmer Investigative Services notes that her PI firm takes part in the event each year because it's a great way to contribute while building exposure. |

ICO Warns of Sharing Employee Information |
LONDON, ENGLAND - A privacy group known as the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is warning employers that giving PIs information about employees can have legal repercussions. In most cases, giving a PI information about an employee violates the Data Protection Act (DPA). According to the ICO, employers should always get requests for information made out in writing and should ask the target employee permission to release the information. |
