PI Identifies Hidden Camera In Classroom

EVERETT, WA - Kay Powers, an English and journalism teacher at Cascade High School, was fired in November after she helped students produce an underground newspaper on school equipment during school hours after being told not to do so. Now the teachers' union, which backed Powers, alleges that the district was spying on her classroom while it was investigating her. A private investigator who was shown a drawing of an object found in the classroom ceiling by one of Powers' attorneys identified it as a "passive infrared motion sensor" that was "commonly used for video concealments."

PI Takes on Google

UNITED KINGDOM - PI David Almeida is suing Google, claiming that a glitch in Google’s AdWords is causing customers to be charged without their consent. Almeida signed on with AdWords in 2006 to promote his PI business. He entered the amount he would be willing to pay for each keyword, but he left a second optional box blank. That box, when left blank, bids for advertisements on third-party sites.

California Workers’ Compensation Fraud

CALIFORNIA - PI Ray Polly recently published an interesting article about workers’ compensation fraud in California. The article points out that many customers who pay insurance premiums have to worry about being left without assistance if they are injured legitimately. The article alleges that insurance providers have been eroding insurance laws and regulation to reduce benefits and eliminate claims in order to make a profit.

PI’s Murder Still a Mystery

UNITED KINGDOM - PI Daniel Morgan was killed and his family believe that a professional hit man was hired to murder him. Morgan was found in a parking area with an axe embedded in his head in 1987. No one has been convicted for the crime, even though police have suggested that the identity of those responsible is widely known. The case has led to accusations of corruption and of a cover-up. Morgan co-owned Southern Investigations and often hired off-duty police officers. The Metropolitan Police felt that Morgan was close to exposing a south London drugs network when he died. In the process, he could have exposed a number of police officers.
