PIs Hope Gadgets Will Overcome Some Economy Woes |
DALLAS, TX – A recent PI conference in Dallas, the World Investigators Conference, attracted about 600 PIs. Some PIs flew in from as far away as Thailand. The focus of the conference was indisputably technology, with many vendors showing the latest tools and devices which can help PIs gain the edge in business. |

Custody Bill Could Have Impact on PI Work |
NASHVILLE, TN – House Bill 2916/Senate Bill 2881 addresses child custody in divorce cases which are contested. The bill would require state judges to award equal custody time between both parents, unless one parent can prove that the other parent is unfit. Opponents of the bill are concerned that the proposed legislation would force parents already strapped by divorce costs to pay for attorneys and PIs to prove a parent’s danger to the children. |

Security Firms in Jamaica Eyed For Links to Crime |
KINGSTON, JAMAICA – Officials are claiming that the security companies in Jamaica need regulation, and some officials are alleging that many such companies are linked to crimes or crime networks. The industry has grown rapidly, thanks to the needs of affluent individuals and companies. Some gains have been made in cleaning up the industry. The Jamaican Ministry of National Security, through its Private Security Regulation Authority, has been trying to standardize and regulate the PI and security industries in the country. |

New Missouri PI Law Takes Effect |
JOPLIN, MO – State officials have been reminding PIs through the media that the state law requires all PIs to now have a license. This stems from legislation passed in 2007, which went into effect this year. The Missouri Division of Professional Registrations has started to approve new PI licenses as of February 1 of this year. Any PI who lacks a license or who has currently not applied for a license may now be subject to misdemeanor charges. If a new state bill is passed, unlicensed PIs will face a felony charge for practicing without a license. |
