R. Kelly Sued by PI |
CHICAGO, IL - R. Kelly's legal troubles are not completely behind him. Private Investigator Charles Freeman is suing Kelly for failure to pay for services rendered. According to the suit filed last week, Kelly hired Freeman to "obtain and/or recover certain tapes that were said to incriminate." The Chicago native states that he successfully completed the job, but Kelly did not pay the $300,000 bill. Aside from the unpaid bill, Freeman is also asking for damages, interest and other costs.

New Bill Requires More Background Checks |
AUGUSTA, ME - A proposed bill would require background checks for gun buyers, even those who buy at gun shows. Rep. Anna Blodgett says the new bill would require unregistered firearm dealers to conduct background checks – something licensed dealers already must do. Under the new legislation, unregistered dealers at gun shows with more than three people in attendance would have to conduct an instant background check before selling a gun. |

PI Surveillance Catches Thief |
WINCHESTER, MA - A PI's surveillance camera recently led to the arrest of William J. Austin Jr. Austin was arrested as a result of PI work conducted for the benefit of another member of the community. That resident had reported money missing from his home and contacted a PI agency to set up surveillance cameras. Austin has admitted to entering the home and taking the money, but alleges it is the only time he entered the victim's apartment by himself.

Victim’s Family Praise PI’s Work |
GREENSBORO, NC - April Jones was killed in 2001, while seeking drugs. Her family eventually hired PI David Spagnola to look into the case when it began to look as though the crime would never be solved. Spagnola used forensics and DNA to find Leonard Whitehead, a man who is now serving 20 years for the crime. Jones's family credits Spagnola's work, calling it a "miracle" that the family is able to get the sense of closure. |

PIs Trail Fake Mr. Softees |
QUEENS, NY - PIs were hired by the Mr. Softee Company last year to follow two vendors who allegedly were infringing on the Mr. Softee trademark. Mr. Softee is a bowtied smiling ice cream cone. The PIs were able to take pictures of the two vendors, who have been found guilty of infringement. Vendors Akop Papazian and the M. Pete Soft Ice Cream Corporation will have to pay the Mr. Softee Company compensation, and may be required to paint over the trucks and return the Mr. Softee menu boards they were using. |
