PIs and Patent Litigators |
NEW YORK, NY – PIs help both sides of patent litigation, gathering evidence that can be hard to find. In these cases, PIs are often necessary because of the challenging nature of patent suits. PIs must often track down samples of possibly infringing items. In some cases, these products are not easily available. They also identify and investigate plaintiffs and competitors of companies worried about patent infringement. |

Insurance Investigations Could be Hampered by a New Law |
DENVER, CO – A proposed new law in Colorado would make it harder for insurers and PIs in that state to investigate possible insurance fraud. Insurance companies often hire PIs to investigate claimants they think might be exaggerating or falsifying injuries. Under the suggested new law, companies would have to present a case before an administrative judge and show that they have some evidence or cause to think that a claimant may be committing fraud.

PIs Support Alabama Bill |
DECATUR, AL – At this time of year, many consumers consider hiring a PI for the first time, as Valentine's Day revives suspicions about unfaithful partners. Customers in Alabama may soon be hiring PIs in a new way, as the Alabama senate is contemplating new legislation (Senate Bill 24) which would make it tougher to get licensed as a PI. The new law would also regulate the state’s PI industry more. PIs, for example, would be subject to fingerprinting, ID cards, and background checks before becoming licensed. Criminals would not be allowed to become PIs. |

New York State Sees Interest in PI and Other Licensed Work |
NEW YORK, NY – In New York State, the number of people filing for licenses for PI jobs, security guard jobs, real estate broker jobs, and other licensed positions increased considerably in late 2009. The number of people applying for security guard licenses alone increased 19% in December. Many experts think that continued economic woes are causing many employers to rethink career paths and select jobs where there is a demand for workers.
