HAVERHILL, MA – Haverhill City Councilor Robert Scatamacchia hopes to stop residents from crossing the state border to avoid excise taxes when registering their cars. Currently, a number of people go into New Hampshire to register their cars, which is illegal, in order to avoid the tax. Scatamacchia wanted to hire PIs to track down tax cheats, but authorities – including the police chief – vetoed the idea. Scatamacchia said that residents have noted that police are unwilling or too busy to look into New Hampshire license plates on their streets, which is why Scatamacchia hoped to hire PIs.

LONDON, ENGLAND – Elin Nordegren, wife of troubled golfer Tiger Woods, has hired a PI, allegedly to check Woods’ assets and wealth, possibly as a precursor to divorce proceedings. Nordegren will likely divorce Woods in California, where divorce laws tend to be more generous to ex-spouses. Nordegren likely wants to know the full extent of Woods’ wealth before filing. Experts believe the pro golfer is worth about $1 billion.

HAVERHILL, MA – Haverhill Councilor Robert Scatamacchia has suggested that the city hire PIs to investigate residents who are registering their cars in nearby New Hampshire to avoid paying taxes. However, Police Chief Alan DeNaro has said that local authorities do not need assistance in investigating fraud. The issue at hand also addresses the amount of money lost in tax revenue. Scatamacchia claims the city is losing hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue due to excise tax ovation, while Police Chief DeNaro claims the figure is much lower.
