The men and women keeping your neighborhood safe may also be the same people who are hauling out your trash.
Waste Management recently launched a program in Northern Colorado, joining Denver and other states, to train their employees to be on the look out for suspicious activity while driving through the neighborhoods.
“Our drivers are out in the community everyday,” said Dan DeWaard, senior district manager for Waste Management of Northern Colorado. “It’s kind of our way to be more involved in our community.”
Law enforcement and private investigators trained employees this morning to look for warning signs of trouble like smoke, people peering in windows, signs of methamphetamine production and possible terrorists.
“There aren’t enough cops and deputies to be in the right place at the right time,” said Bob Chaffee, coordinator for the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office volunteer crime prevention unit. “You guys could really have an impact on public safety in Weld and Larimer Counties.”
