Carey and Mike Torrice have a knack for the camera, both in front of and behind. The married private investigators will appear on “The Maury Povich Show” today to talk about and show video of “cheatin’” husbands and wives, boyfriends and girlfriends.

Carey Torrice, 31, is an actress, former model and a Macomb County commissioner.

Mike Torrice, who operates Eye Spy Investigations in Fraser, has already appeared on “Maury Povich” more than 20 times in nearly seven years, and this will be the second time for Carey, the first time since they got married in 2006.

Producers of the often sensational talk show will feature salacious videos of cheaters in the act.

“They like the idea of a husband and wife private-eye team,” Mike Torrice. “We get some good video, and they like the way we present it.”

“We have so much fun,” Carey Torrice said. “They like the way we feed off each other. We have a lot of charisma.”

The Clinton Township couple recorded the segment for the show about a month ago in New York, offering several recent samples from the Detroit area, with names withheld and faces blurred out.

Among the scenarios they’ll describe:

A man told his wife he was staying late after his bowling league hanging out with friends at the alley bar. The Torrices instead caught him going in a waitress’s vehicle to a “secluded parking lot” a few miles away for sex, even though he was smart enough to avoid using his car to try to avoid detection.

A plumber told his wife he was going on emergency jobs. His wife complained he was late making house payments. She discovered that instead of fixing pipes, he was getting his fix at a strip bar and spending hundreds of dollars per visit.

A woman told her husband she was going into work early. Instead, she was meeting a man at a motel parking lot for a pre-work rendezvous in a vehicle.

A husband was caught cruising Eight Mile Road picking up prostitutes.

Contrary to popular belief, the Torrices said, women cheat on men as much as men on women, based on the amount of their business. And women are good.

“Women are better at it,” Carey said. “They’re harder to catch. They’re more intuitive. They watch everything around them. Men don’t pay attention.

“Most of the cheating happens during the weekday, on the clock. That’s when they have the time to do it.”

The video captured by the Torrices often is used in divorces, said Mike, who authored the book, “How to Catch a Cheatin’ Mate.” But not always.

“It doesn’t always end in divorce,” Mike said. “Some of them go to counseling, and we try to get them to go to counseling. Usually there are other issues involved.”

Carey Torrice, a Chippewa Valley High School graduate, was elected to her first term on the county commission as a Democrat in fall 2006. Planning to seek re-election this year, she said she devotes plenty of time to her commission work, calling it her top priority.

With the screen name Carey Shawn, she had a major role in the low-budget slasher movie, “Silent Scream.” She had a small recurring role on “Guiding Light,” a CBS-TV (Channel 62) soap opera, and has appeared in TV commercials and been a spokeswoman for several products.

Carey said despite a reduced role in acting, she continues to stay involved. She hopes to perform in a couple of films she is trying to have filmed in Macomb County. The films would involve famed Michigan actor Jeff Daniels, who was a producer on “Silent Scream.”

She also is starting a local cable access TV show called “A Day in the Life of” to depict people with interesting or unusual jobs in Macomb County. The first show features Sue Jeroue at the Macomb County Animal Shelter, she said.

Carey also wanted to point out that her private detective work isn’t all lurid or negative as busting cheating spouses or lovers.

“We do a lot of good things, too,” she said. “We find missing kids, lost lovers and missing pets,” she said, adding that around the recent Valentine’s Day, they located a senior citizen’s girlfriend from his teenage years.

Unfortunately, she noted, “People want to be shocked. They don’t want to hear the heartwarming stories.”
