Representative Agema’s plan would give teachers, administrators and other employees the chance to carry concealed pistols if authorized by the school’s leader. Employees wanting to carry guns would need to pass background checks, take safety classes and become proficient shooting a pistol. In the wake of Virginia Tech, Columbine and other tragedies, Agema believes his plan will save lives.
Rep. Dave Agema: “A teacher, well qualified and taught, is very capable in an emergency situation to protect herself and some of the students.”
Doug Pratt, Michigan Education Association: “We’re firmly against this bill. We have always stood for weapons-free schools as the best way to keep our students safe.”
The state’s largest teacher union is promising to fight the plan. The MEA believes the plan has no chance of being passed. In effect, more smoke than fire. It is a heated, controversial debate. At stake- safety in our state’s schools. The bill has officially been introduced in the state house. It now goes to the judiciary committee for further debate.

I can’t beleive the teachers union. The oldest adage is still appropriate. When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns. Name one of the school shootings where a difference would be found in the outcome supporting further gun control.
