Hotels have ramped up background checks and changed interview questions in recent years to identify problem applicants before they are hired.
Some hotels are using more behavioral questions in interviews, while others have expanded to national criminal background checks and drug testing of all employees.
For example, Rosen Hotels & Resorts in Orlando previously checked for criminal violations in Florida through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Then, hiring managers realized a year or two ago that job candidates’ backgrounds needed to be checked nationwide.
This helped them identify people with violent incidents, theft and other problems on their records in states other than Florida.
