LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–June 28, 2006–Farmers Insurance Exchange and Mid Century Insurance Company have sued two separate body shops and their owners, accusing them of taking part in a scheme designed to defraud Farmers and its policyholders. Babysitter and nanny checks can help you find the right caregiver for your child.

If you are hiring a nanny, au pair, babysitter, tutor, or child caregiver of any kind, you need to check carefully. The news is full of stories of children who have been abused, hurt, and even killed through the recklessness or instability of the adult who was entrusted to care for them. Sadly, behind each of these headlines is a real-life tragedy. You do not want this to happen to you, so if you rely on anyone to care for your child - whether for weeks or just a few hours, you should consider running a thorough nanny check or babysitter check.

Why bodyguards are not just for celebrities anymore

posted by PInow Staff | June 28th, 2006

executive_protection.jpg
In the past, entertainment magazines and tabloids often printed pictures of tiny celebrities surrounded by tough-looking bodyguards. This, coupled with the way bodyguards were featured in movies, led many people to believe that bodyguards and protectors were something reserved for famous people and presidents. These professionals were often referred to as “goons” or “secret service agents.” If this is your view, too, it’s time to rethink the stereotypes. The truth is, today’s bodyguards do a lot more than just protect celebrities. A growing number of executives and even everyday people are choosing to hire executive protection and security agents, as they are now known. These professionals have extensive training and are most likely licensed in the state where they work.

Is Myspace.com still a ‘predator’s dream?’

posted by PInow Staff | June 28th, 2006

Kids and predators can still lie about age to get around new MySpace rules

Claiming to be 14, Marissa Marlowe used a false identity to log onto the popular Internet social networking site, MySpace.com.
Truth is, she’s only 12.
“Everyone had one so I wanted to be on,” she said. “And you can’t have one unless you’re 14, so I put I was 14.”
MySpace.com has added safety features to attempt shielding children against predators. One feature blocks those over 18 from being “friends” with a 14 or 15-year-old unless an e-mail address or first and last name has been provided.
However, many Boca parents still think the site is dangerous. The parents don’t believe these on-line features would prevent children or predators from lying about age, or predators from claiming a younger age.

Background checks on coaches can help

posted by PInow Staff | June 28th, 2006

Their parents trusted his smile.

Turns out there are some cheatin’ women out there, too.

Lots of them.

A man named John knows it’s true because it happened to him.

The whole time he was working in the defence of his country, he said, he was worried. “I had strong feelings she was fooling around.”

IT May Face New E-discovery Rules in December

posted by PInow Staff | June 26th, 2006

Firms installing apps, anticipating legal requirements

New rules for electronic discovery of documents in civil cases go into effect in December. Lack of compliance could result in significant penalties for companies, legal experts and executives said.

The new rules were created by an advisory committee to the Judicial Conference of the United States, which oversees administrative and policy issues for federal courts, and were adopted by the U.S. Supreme Court on May 1, said Ron Hedges, magistrate judge in the U.S. District Court in Newark.

Unless Congress acts to change the rules, they will become effective on Dec. 1, Hedges said.
