Indiana Eliminating Licensing for Private Investigators?

FORT WAYNE, IN -- The Regulated Occupations Evaluation Committee is requesting that certain professions in the state should no longer be regulated and licensed by the state. The legislative session coming up will consider the proposal. The commission is recommending that Indiana stop licensing private investigators, security guards, dietitians, barbers, hearing aid dealers, and beauticians. According to the commission, the boards that oversee these professions do not receive many complaints about licensed professionals.  For example, security guards and private investigators have been licensed in the state for close to five decades, according to the commission, but consumers and individuals rarely need to hire such professionals and few complaints are made.

Digitized Medical Records Pose a Risk  

NEW YORK, NY -- Hospitals and clinics have been digitizing patient records, especially since the 2009 stimulus bill gives incentives to health care providers who switch over to electronic health records.  However, experts say that as a result of this, reported breaches of patient information have increased 32% between 2009 and 2010. When patient records are compromised, health care providers and organizations face even larger costs as they need to hire private investigators to look into the cases and often face costly legal battles as well.

New Private Investigator in Buffalo

BUFFALO, NY -- Buffalo Police Lt. Dennis McLaughlin will start his own private investigation business after retiring from the police Internal Affairs Unit at the end of the month. While working as a police officer, McLaughlin has received mayoral commendations, "Officer of the Month" citations, and other awards. He will take the skills he learned from his job into his new business.
