Is Jerice Hunter Under Surveillance?

GLENDALE, AZ -- While Jhessye Shockley remains missing, her mother Jerice Hunter is still the focus of investigation. Now, there are reports that Hunter and some of her friends have found unusual devices attached to their cars – devices that may be GPS trackers. Some media outlets are speculating that Hunter and some of her friends may have been placed under surveillance as part of the investigation into Shockley’s disappearance. One of Hunter’s friends alleges that when she removed the mystery device from her car she was approached by undercover police officers, who wanted the device returned to them.

Family Hires Private Investigators

STAMFORD, CT -- Matthew Badger lost three children in a fire on Christmas morning. He is now hiring private investigators to investigate the cause of the blaze. Police have not determined whether they will press charges against contractor Michael Borcina, who police investigators believe may have removed embers from the fireplace and placed them near the trash by an entrance to the home. No charges have yet been laid in the case.

Fighting Fraud

AUSTIN, TX -- Allan Bachman is the education manager of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners consists of private investigators, law enforcement, risk managers, and other professionals who investigate and tackle the problem of fraud. The organization also provides anti-fraud certification and training for its 60,000 members. According to Bachman, there are several things that organizations can do to prevent fraud, but the most important thing to do is to make it difficult to commit fraud. Running background checks, encouraging internal vigilance, and running regular audits can help. He also suggests separating duties.

Julian Assange, the Media, and Private Investigators

ENGLAND -- As the media hacking scandal continues in the UK, some reporters have noted that a number of groups and organizations gather private information and use private information in ways that many would not agree with. Facebook, for example, has been under fire for its use of users’ private information. And Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, gathers private information about governments and organizations. In at least one interview, Assange defended the use of private investigators by “News of the World” leading some to speculate that Assange may have worked with private investigators as well to gather information for WikiLeaks. Assange has claimed in interviews that WikiLeaks has not paid for sources but has also stated that he has no philosophical opposition to paying for information or sources.
